Launched in May 2021, the EU-funded SALEMA project successfully created brand new, high-performance aluminium alloys and demonstrated their suitability in automotive applications. The project implemented a circular economy model to reintegrate scrap aluminium materials into the primary aluminium manufacturing process of car parts. This circular economy approach has contributed to a more sustainable industry and reduced dependence on non-EU imports. The project consortium spanned 6 European countries and involved 16 partners. It ran until April 2024.
