ETS Guidelines Technical Update: Response to Call for Evidence Consultation

The ETS Guidelines enable Member States to partially compensate aluminium producers for the indirect CO₂ costs passed on through electricity prices—costs that competitors outside the EU do not face. Given aluminium’s classification as one of the sectors most exposed to carbon leakage, ensuring fair and consistent implementation across the EU is vital. European Aluminium therefore encourages the European Commission to promote a coherent approach among Member States to safeguard industrial competitiveness while supporting the EU’s decarbonisation objectives.
