Position Paper: European Aluminium Recommendations on the Post-2030 EU ETS Review
European Aluminium welcomes the Commission’s proposal to review the ETS Directive, together with the separate legislative proposal allowing for the adjustment of the ETS free allocation fallback benchmarks for the 2026–2030 period. This position paper outlines the key changes needed to ensure the Commission’s proposals enable the European aluminium industry to continue driving decarbonisation, while preventing carbon leakage and creating a supportive investment environment for a strategic European value chain.

Position Paper: ETS 2026–2030 Fallback Benchmarks Adjustment – European Aluminium’s Recommendations on COM(2026) 619 Final
European Aluminium welcomes the Commission’s proposal to review the ETS Directive, together with the separate legislative proposal enabling the adjustment of the ETS free allocation fallback benchmarks for 2026–2030. However, further improvements are needed to ensure the framework effectively supports the European aluminium industry in decarbonising while remaining globally competitive.
