European Aluminium welcomes the opportunity to respond to the public consultation on the draft implementing act concerning the carbon price paid in third countries under CBAM. To avoid exacerbating existing imbalances in carbon costs between EU producers and third-country competitors, it is essential that recognised carbon prices are assessed according to criteria equivalent to those applied under the EU Emissions Trading System. This paper outlines key recommendations to ensure a robust, consistent and fair approach to the recognition of carbon pricing mechanisms in third countries.
