European Aluminium, has submitted its input on the draft Delegated Directive amending the RoHS Directive regarding the exemption for lead in aluminium. Given the toxicity of lead and the availability of lead-free alternatives, European Aluminium advocates for the swift phase-out of intentional lead additions without exceptions. Maintaining existing exemptions poses risks to EU production, particularly following the 21st Adaptation to Technical Progress (ATP) of the CLP Regulation. To address unintentional lead content in aluminium casting alloys, European Aluminium calls for the creation of a new exemption, 6(b)-III, with the longest possible expiry date.
