As the Environmental Footprint (EF) methodology becomes increasingly embedded in key EU legislation, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the Critical Raw Materials Act, the signatories highlight growing concerns over the absence of a robust and operational EF database. This joint letter calls on the European Commission to urgently publish an official methodology for EF-compliant datasets, together with the associated elementary flow list, to ensure consistent modelling, legal certainty and effective implementation across industrial sectors.

Following the publication of the European Commission’s draft Implementing Regulation on “Carbon Price Paid in Third Countries” under CBAM, the signatories stress that the mechanism’s rules must remain fully consistent with those applied under the EU Emissions Trading System. In particular, the statement raises concerns that the inclusion of domestic and international carbon credits could undermine the environmental integrity and effectiveness of CBAM. The signatories therefore call for a robust and coherent approach that ensures equal treatment of carbon pricing mechanisms and preserves a level playing field for European industry.
