European Aluminium welcomes the European Commission’s consultation on a post-safeguards tool for the steel industry and calls for its scope to be extended to aluminium and other sectors impacted by global overcapacity. Like steel, Europe’s aluminium producers face severe pressure from structural overcapacity, rising energy costs, and trade uncertainty. With world-leading recycling facilities and one of the lowest carbon footprints globally, Europe’s sustainable aluminium industry must be safeguarded.
